Kidscan is the only organisation in Zimbabwe dedicated to increasing the survival rate of children with cancer. Kidzcan's founder Andrea Whatman (herself a survivor of childhood cancer) aimed to provide hope, comfort and consolation to the families and children suffering from cancer through a simple volunteer programme, but she very quickly came to realize the overwhelming need to support diagnosis and treatment. With chemotherapy drugs unavailable and tests for diagnosis beyond the financial reach of most families in Zimbabwe, something needed to be done. Thus, Kidzcan, Children’s Cancer Relief, a Zimbabwean Private Voluntary Organization (PVO) was established.
Every year the girls and staff of Chisi Junior raise money and awareness for Kidzcan by wearing something orange! A 'tax' is levied for the orange items! It's a fun day and well supported. In the past some of the girls have been very industrious by raising money selling silkworms.
